Poynter's Revenue Camp for Journalism Entrepreneurs (DREV-12)
APPLICATIONS FOR THIS SEMINAR ARE NO LONGER BEING ACCEPTED.
Invest two days at Poynter’s Revenue Camp for Journalism Entrepreneurs and leave with a plan and toolkit for making more money.
Benefit from two days of teaching and guidance from people who’ve done it on how to make money through:
• Premium Content
• Grant Writing
• Merchandising and Other
You’ll hear from other participants about what’s working and what’s not, gaining contacts you can call on when you get home.
You’ll leave with a better understanding of revenue sources, insight from entrepreneurs who’ve made money with them and templates for applying these strategies to your own enterprise.
Each workshop attendee will receive:
- A sample ad sales kit
- Research on online ad rates
- A sample freelancer contract
- A sample event budget, reflecting all costs and revenue
- A list of useful tools & sites for startups
- Discounts on entrepreneurial training from Poynter’s e-learning site, News University (www.newsu.org)
- A copy of Entrepreneurial Journalism: How to Build What’s Next for News
- A free, live follow-up chat
The workshop will include hands-on sessions, with experts providing specific guidance on each revenue stream. They’ll show examples of what’s working and guide participants through the process of developing new revenue plans.
Visiting faculty will include:
Rafat Ali, founder and CEO of Skift, a travel intelligence startup, and founder in 2002 of paidContent.org, a leader in covering the economics of digital content.
Mike Orren, founder of Pegasus News, a local news site serving Dallas/Fort Worth.
Rebecca Lovell, GeekWire’s chief business officer, a TechStars mentor and community advisor for Startup Weekend.
Chris Seper, the CEO and editor in chief of MedCity Media and regular contributor to MedCity News.
Workshop hours: Friday, May 18, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday, May 19, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. We’ll have working (and networking!) lunches both days and an informal, optional, pay-your-own-way dinner Friday evening.
