Teachapalooza (DJED-13)

Jun 21, 2013 - Jun 23, 2013

The College Educator Seminar Series

Catch Up, Power Up, Re-Ignite Your Passion for teaching

2013 Teachapalooza Schedule and Speakers

Teachapalooza III is the place to catch up, power up and re-ignite your passion for teaching. Join us from June 21-23 at the Poynter campus in St. Petersburg, Fla., for three fast-paced days of relevant, cut-to-the-chase learning for journalism educators.

You’ll learn the latest technology and trends that shape journalism, and how you can help your students be prepared for the job market they will face when they graduate. You’ll learn the new ways you can put social media, mobile phone and mapping tools to work in your classroom. Even more, you’ll join a lasting community of journalism educators who share your passion for shaping the next generation of journalists.

WHAT WILL I LEARN:

  • What skills your students have to have when they graduate
  • The best tools for social media, multimedia, graphics, mobile reporting, tablet storytelling and more
  • The classroom technology that will help you be a better teacher—including social media, mobile phones, live chats and mapping tools
  • The latest courses, tools and resources from Poynter’s NewsU that you can integrate into your curriculum

Testimonial from past participants:
“Teachapalooza at Poynter provided exactly the tools I needed to refresh and reenergize my classroom teaching.”
— Richard Craig, San Jose State University

“The conference made it so I was up to date and comfortable with new technology. It showed me how to use tech in the classroom.”
— Dorren Robinson, Belmont University

I was fascinated by the comparison of Twitter to Western Union — and I was hooked. I have changed my course curriculum to focus more on journalists’ use of social media. — Kimberly Voss, Univ of Central Florida

“The Teachapalooza sessions have provided exposure to technologies, methodologies and instruction that I would not have had the time or resources to find on my own.” — Joel Cramer, Franklin College of Indiana

“The teaching plan at Poynter is the best overall program of any multimedia training in the U.S.” — Kakie Urch, Univesity of Kentucky
