CONGRATULATIONS! Our ‘Write Field’ mentoring program graduated 27 middle school boys from groups with high drop-out rates. Working with the Tampa Bay Rays, schools, law enforcement, businesses and community groups, The Write Field works to improve the students’ academic performance and life skills.
POYNTER, CRAIG ‘CONNECT’: craigslist founder Craig Newmark and Poynter will host an ethics symposium in New York this fall. The desired outcome: a new set of guiding principles for journalists and other content creators committed to truth-telling in the digital age.
DIGITAL FUNDING: The Knight Foundation initiated a Gift Agreement between Knight, API and Poynter for a $1.5 million longterm fund to be administered by Poynter for digital training for newspapers.
BIG NAMES, BIG SUCCESS: Featuring a roster of well-known speakers, TEDx Poynter 2012 drew a capacity crowd of 100 attendee. Reviews were glowing.
COMMUNITY CONVERSATIONS: MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski are coming to town August 28 for a lunchtime gig during the GOP Convention … The Weather Channel’s Jim Cantore was at Poynter in June to welcome hurricane season … Dave Barry comes for a CC in January 2013.
