Chris Martin is the President of the Poynter Foundation and Vice President for External Relations, serving as a member of the Institute’s senior management team. Martin is the former Vice President for University Relations at West Virginia University, and the former Dean of WVU’s Perley Isaac Reed School of Journalism. She also served as Co-Director of Poynter’s Summer College Newswriting and Reporting Fellowships from 1997 to 2004.

Martin began teaching journalism at WVU in 1990, after a seven-year career as a news reporter and editor.

Roy Peter Clark has taught writing at Poynter since 1979. Over three decades he has served the institute as dean, vice president, senior scholar, and member of the Board of Trustees. Clark has written or edited 15 books on writing and journalism, the most popular and influential being “Writing Tools: 50 Essential Strategies for Every Writer.” Podcasts of the book have been downloaded more than a million times. The New York Times Book Review praised Clark’s latest book, “The Glamour of Grammar,” as a “a manual for the 21st century.”

Stephen Buckley is the dean of faculty at The Poynter Institute. Prior to joining Poynter, he was the digital publisher at the St. Petersburg Times, where he worked from 2001-2009.
