Poynter Leadership: Personal and Powerful

Leadership: Personal & Powerful,” the second in a series of booklets developed for newsroom leaders by The Poynter Institute, focuses on one of the most important areas of newsroom leadership: interpersonal skills.

Research demonstrates that the job satisfaction of employees is directly related to the working relationship they have with their immediate boss. Good leaders understand the importance of leading individuals, even as they manage teams.

Poynter Leadership: Essential Skills and Values

A small book packed with big ideas, Poynter Leadership: Essential Skills & Values provides practical advice for newsroom leaders, from neophyte to veteran. For new leaders, it is your road map; for the experienced, it helps fine-tune your performance.

Essential Skills & Values is a project of Poynter’s Leadership Team, faculty members whose real-world experiences as news executives and teachers enrich their writing.

Leading by Example

Newsroom leaders are called upon to retain readers and attract new ones. They manage through economic downturns. They direct coverage of monumental importance for their communities and, indeed, the entire world. They look ahead to the future of news and to hire, train, develop, and retain the staffs that create that future. How do they do all that? And what can we learn from them?

Leading by Example offers stories of 37 industry leaders who are making a difference in their newsrooms and communities. Informative and inspirational, the stories provide lessons for us all.
