Poynter Names Foundation President

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Poynter Institute has named Christine Martin as President of the newly formed Poynter Foundation. Martin will work closely with Poynter President Karen B. Dunlap and Brian Tierney, Foundation Board Chair, to significantly increase philanthropic support for the 37 year-old Institute.

Poynter unveils tablet research findings

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Poynter Institute has released major findings on how people read news on tablet devices. Results of “Poynter EyeTrack: The Tablet” were unveiled earlier this month at Northwestern’s Medill School of Journalism. Poynter News University Announces New Agreement With American Copy Editors Society (ACES)

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.–The Poynter Institute’s News University announced today that it has entered into a training alliance agreement with the American Copy Editors Society (ACES). As part of the agreement, Poynter NewsU will provide discounted training for ACES members in exchange for ACES contributions on several Poynter NewsU training initiatives.

As part of the training initiative, ACES and Poynter will create an editing certificate program that will include several courses on copy editing.

Journalism Schools, Training Groups May Apply to Host a McCormick Specialized Reporting Institute in 2013

Workshop hosts receive funds from the Robert R. McCormick Foundation to cover the costs of travel and teaching on critical topics for journalists

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Robert R. McCormick Foundation and the Poynter Institute today announce that applications are open for organizations to host a McCormick Specialized Reporting Institute (SRI) in 2013.

SRIs are intensive reporting workshops designed to provide subject-specific expertise and practical skills to working journalists. McCormick is funding seven SRI workshops in 2012.
