  • Poynter Announces First Two Partners for Journalism 101 Pilot

    ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (April 11, 2011) –The Poynter Institute’s e-learning project, News University, today announced that it will partner with Florida Atlantic University and Missouri State University as part of the Journalism 101 pilot program.

    Florida Atlantic and Missouri State are the first schools that will participate in the pilot program. As partners, they will provide guidance on the development of the online teaching and work with Poynter NewsU to ensure the content meets the needs of the schools and students.

    If you’ve been watching this spot, About Us, you know some of Poynter’s big stories for the first quarter of 2011. I’ll summarize the quarter, add a few items and tell you what’s ahead.

    Core teaching remains strong

    We teach new audiences and use new formats, and yet our teaching remains strong, as does our commitment to journalism values. The year began with established seminars in Leadership, Digital Entrepreneurship and Multimedia Journalism for teachers. We also taught three custom seminars, two for Danish Journalists and one for Associated Press managers.

  • Wyoming Tribune Eagle to Use Poynter’s NewsU Certificate Program in Training Pilot Project

    ST. PETERSBURG, FL – Poynter’s e-learning project, News University (NewsU), today announced that the Wyoming Tribune Eagle will integrate NewsU’s Certificate of Proficiency Program into its training program for new staffers. Poynter NewsU will provide its certificates of proficiency and other online training on its site, www.newsu.org, as part of its partnership with the Tribune Eagle.

    The Poynter NewsU Certificate Program is designed to help editors, publishers and educators assess a participant’s understanding of the journalism industry’s essential skills and best practices.
