Pegie Stark Adam

Pegie Stark Adam began teaching at Poynter in the late 1980s with Mario Garcia. She became Director of Poynter’s Graphics and Design programs in the early 1990s and remains an Affiliate faculty. Pegie created ‘Elements of Design,’ a four-week design course for Poynter’s NewsU which she teaches annually.

Pegie also worked with Mario Garcia on Poynter’s first eyetrack study in 1991, with Sara Quinn on EyeTrack07, and with Stanford University on Poynter’s first online eyetrack project.

Pegie is a freelance designer and teacher for the Ottawa Citizen and various international newspapers, magazines, corporate publications, websites, and the Salvador Dali Museum. She has worked with Garcia-Media on redesigns, including the ‘Yale Daily News.’

Pegie was Graphics Director for the Detroit Free Press, Graphics Editor for The Detroit News and Art Director for the St. Petersburg Times; associate professor at Syracuse University, the University of Florida, and University of South Florida St. Petersburg. She has a B.F.A in lithography, John Herron School of Art, and an M.A. and Ph.D. in journalism and mass communications, Indiana University.

She was awarded Ball State’s Anthony Majeri Award for Leadership and Innovation, 2008.
