Kevin spent most of his career in broadcast journalism as an award-winning news photographer, first at KTBC-TV in Austin, Texas, then WRAL-TV in Raleigh, North Carolina, and KPRC-TV in Houston. During this time Kevin was honored by the National Press Photographers Association and received the Western Heritage award from the National Cowboy Hall of Fame.
In 1996 he returned to KTBC rising to Assistant News Director and in 1999 Kevin launched News 8 Austin, Time Warner’s 24-hour Newschannel.
News 8 Austin has received national recognition with two Sigma Delta Chi awards, the National Edward R. Murrow award, two National Walter Cronkite awards for excellence in Political Journalism, and as a finalist for the DuPont-Columbia Award.
Kevin is a Poynter Institute leadership alumnus and visiting faculty member, a Carole Kneeland Project Fellow and current President of the CKP Board, and he facilitates workshops around the country on journalism ethics, crime coverage, newsroom culture, and leadership. He recently served as chairman of the Texas Associated Press Broadcaster’s board of directors and is Vice-chairman on the board of the Lutheran Social Services.
He’s been married since 1988 to Olga Campos, a news anchor at the competing ABC affiliate. They have 16 year-old twin daughters. He’s a proud University of Texas graduate and Longhorn football fan!
