Karen E. Andreas
Karen Andreas is the regional publisher of North of Boston Media Group, which publishes four daily newspapers, four weekly newspapers, and eight community magazines in Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire. The largest of her dailies is The Eagle-Tribune, a two-time Pulitzer Prize winner. Andreas has made her profession in the media industry for more than 25 years. She has spent the majority of those years in a newsroom, starting as a cub reporter while in college and holding just about every editing job imaginable. She became a publisher in 2005 but still loves to roll up her editor’s sleeves to read copy, dig for documents and plan creative magazine covers. Her mantra is “Think Like A Reader.” Andreas has enjoyed a storied journalism career, spanning jobs from investigative reporter to lifestyles editor, managing editor and editor-in-chief. She also spent several years as executive editor and vice president of news for Eagle-Tribune Publishing Co., managing 10 newspapers and more than 200 editorial staffers. Her true passion is community news, focusing on all things local — from City Hall to classrooms to high school sporting fields. Andreas has received numerous industry awards over the years. Most recently she was named 2014-15 Publisher of the Year by the national Editor & Publisher magazine, the media industry’s leading trade publication. Last fall, she was recognized with the Anti-Defamation League’s 2014 Leadership Award. She has also received the prestigious Judith Brown Award from the New England Society of Newspaper Editors. This award “recognizes the accomplishments and pioneering spirit of an outstanding woman in journalism from the six-state region.” A graduate of the University of New Hampshire, Andreas is very active in her community, serving on numerous volunteer boards. She loves sports — especially football and baseball — and enjoys watching her two teenage sons play. She and her family reside in Danvers, Mass.
