Cheryl Carpenter is bureau chief of McClatchy’s Washington, D.C., newsroom, working with about 30 reporters and editors to produce a national report for McClatchy’s 30 newsrooms across the country. Before joining the D.C. bureau, she was the managing editor of Charlotte Observer in Charlotte, N.C., where she helped lead three investigative projects that were Pulitzer Prize finalists. Carpenter was a Neiman fellow in 2004-2005, studying leadership at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. She also holds a master’s degree in organizational development and earned a coaching certificate as part of the graduate program.
