Carolyn Yaschur is an assistant professor at Augustana College in Rock Island, IL. She teaches classes in multimedia journalism and mass communication and communication studies. She received her Ph.D. in journalism from the University of Texas in Austin, her M.A. from the University of Missouri School of Journalism, and has a B.A. in history from Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania. Yaschur is also an award-winning photojournalist, who has worked at the Kitsap Sun in Bremerton, WA, and The State in Columbia, SC, and has freelanced for the Asbury Park Press in Neptune, NJ, and the Lousiville Courier-Journal in Louisville, KY. As a photojournalist she covered events such as the 2004 Olympics in Athens, Greece, the Iditarod, the Kentucky Derby, President Clinton, the Seattle Seahawks, and the Seattle Mariners. Stemming from her professional photojournalism experience, her award-winning research revolves around the effects of visual journalism and multimedia journalism, as well as the profession of photojournalism.
